Works on Paper

I have a long practice of creating gestural ink drawings on paper. This practice started as a way to “warm-up”, like stretching for the creative mind and hand. But over years, it became a spiritual practice and a way of being present in the moment of mark-making. Many drawings get thrown away, many sit in drawers for years, and quite a few characters emerge that get reused in paintings and sculpture. Quick drawing is a way of taking seriously the authentic hand of the artist which creates a style or voice. Simultaneously, quick drawing is not precious in time or materials.

Watercolors and burn drawings are a further way of translating thinking about color and space onto a page.
